The carbide in these bits is very high quality and they last for many many projects if the product is used correctly. Fortunately these carvewright bits will work in the rock chuck just fine. I have owned my carvewright for about 5 months now and have made 4 or 5 dozen projects and the original bit is as sharp as it was the day I bought it. The adapters/quick change chuck system is not the best-- the aftermarket chuck "the rock chuck" is a more stable and more predictable way to hold the bits--you can read more about the rock chuck on the carvewright forum. Buy with confidence and make sure you do your research and learn what you are doing BEFORE carving with this machine. It is not a perfect machine and it has a fairly steep learning curve, but for the money nothing else comes even close.LDR
